First things first.....It took A LOT longer than expected, but it was not the fabbing of the turbos and inlet piping that took so long. I go to college full time and work full-time, So I did not have loads of time to do it. (YugoBernie, that is why it was "a year" with "GT28R soon" next to my screen name) I also replaced MANY items on my Z to make it more reliable... (check mods). All I can say is WOW, I am very impressed with these turbos. I paid only $1316 shipped for them. The lag is VERY VERY small. I would compare to the lag of a totally STOCK TT. ( I have DP's, TP's, RPS flywheel etc). I am only running ~15psi of boost (base wastegate setting). No tuning, GReddy 3-row FMIC etc. When the turbos kick in, they kick in HARD. For the small amount of lag that these turbos posess, They have REALLY GOOD POWER. I will be installing my water injection in the next few days. The turbos sound very nice as well, I can hear them sing so nicely before the boost comes on hard. I am NOTHING but HAPPY with these turbos. There is so much more in them. With my Water/methanol injection,FMIC,3" turbo back exhaust... I am 99.9% positive I will be over the 500rwhp mark. (Dyno will happen, AFTER I get my car out of the body shop etc) Even with my 4.5" thick FMIC (pressure drop), The turbos do not seem to lag bad at all. The first 70ish miles, I drove the Z without boosting. When I did first boost, I was very suprised with the power delivery... Smooth yet STRONG. Anyone that wants an inexpensive turbo upgrade that is VERY streetable, reliable (Ball bearing, keeps turbos spooled faster between shifts), The GT28R BB turbos are what you should be looking for. Just takes so minor fabbing to do so. For the compressor INLET, There is no real need to cut the flange and re-weld. You can use an aluminum adapter plate that you must fabricate (use copper seal to seal it). Yes, there is some grinding to do on motor mount brackets etc. But all in all... Its not THAT bad. I am 21 years old, I have ~6 years of mechanic experience and mainly learned alot of fabbing on this turbo install/upgrade. I did this all by myself. If you are mechanically inclined and have some free time, needing a turbo upgrade. Try these turbos out..... You will not be dissapointed. Feel Free to email me with questions about the install if you would like.
Sincerely, Shawn300zTT
NO, This picture is not photoshopped. It took many times to take this picture. Setting up the timer, shutter speed etc, then jumping on my bike and getting the tire to spin.
